In early March, Google introduced the Pixel Camera app version 9.8, enhancing its photography and video capabilities. Following that release, the company has now rolled out version 9.9 of the Pixel Camera app.
This update comes shortly after the June 2025 Feature Drop, which aimed to enhance user experience with additional features. One significant change in the latest version is the removal of the Social Share functionality.
This feature previously allowed users to easily share their photos as Instagram stories or through other apps directly from the camera interface. By swiping up the circular preview next to the shutter button, users could access quick shortcuts for sharing.
However, with the 9.9 update, this option has been eliminated. Users will now need to open photos in full to share them on social media.
It remains unclear whether this change is a deliberate decision by Google or an oversight. Given its popularity, there is a possibility that Google may reinstate the feature in a future update.
Additionally, the expected “Education Hub” feature has not been included in the version 9.9 update, although it was detailed in the June 2025 Feature Drop changelog. This feature is intended to provide users with how-to instructions and visual inspirations for various camera modes.
It can be accessed by tapping a question mark icon in the viewfinder. There is some speculation that this functionality may be introduced later through a server-side update.
Google has begun rolling out version 9.9.106.767010485.16 for the Pixel Camera app on the Play Store. As with most updates, it will be distributed in phases, meaning that not all users will receive it simultaneously.
