Google is set to introduce Qi2 support for the Pixel 10 series this year, specifically enhancing it with Qi 2.2 capabilities. This new standard will allow for charging speeds up to a theoretical 60W, although it is unlikely that the Pixel 10 will achieve such high speeds.
The company plans to launch a range of accessories under the “Pixelsnap” name, which indicates a strong focus on enhancing user experience with wireless charging. Currently, no smartphones support Qi 2.2, but there are rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will feature this technology later this fall.
Despite these advancements, it is important to note that even when supporting Qi 2.2, the Pixel 10 may not utilize the maximum charging speeds available with this technology. The anticipated Pixelsnap accessories include a standard Pixelsnap Charger, a charger with a stand, and a Pixelsnap Ring Stand.
These products are expected to perform similarly to existing MagSafe chargers and stands on the market. A key feature of Qi 2 is the inclusion of magnets, which enhance user convenience by allowing devices to align effortlessly with charging accessories.
While many smartphones have adopted Qi 2 this year, they have often overlooked the magnet aspect. However, reports suggest that the Pixel 10 will indeed incorporate these magnets, enabling users to take advantage of the new accessories without needing a MagSafe case, unlike with the Pixel 9 series.
Android Authority has confirmed that the Pixelsnap project is linked to the Pixel 10, reinforcing the expectation that magnetic charging features will be included in the lineup. The Pixel 10 is scheduled for release on August 28, with a launch event set for August 20, providing a few more months to learn about Pixelsnap and the benefits of Qi 2.2 wireless charging.
