Last week, Vivo unveiled a teaser video for its upcoming X Fold 5 foldable smartphone, hinting at its potential to be the thinnest foldable device available. In addition, the company suggested that the successor to the Vivo X Fold 3 could also be the lightest model in its category. Recently, Vivo confirmed the launch date and provided insights into the design and color options for the X Fold 5 flagship. Vivo announced that the official launch of the X Fold 5 is scheduled for June 25 at 7 PM local time in China.

In a Weibo post, the company highlighted that this new model will be both “lighter” and “stronger” than the X Fold 3. The promotional poster showcases a sleek folded profile along with a prominent camera bump on the back. Reports indicate that the X Fold 5 may measure 4.3mm when unfolded and 8.7mm when folded, with a weight of approximately 209g. Currently, pre-orders are open on Vivo’s website in China, with the landing page displaying a flat display, slim bezels, and a centered hole-punch selfie camera.

The large circular camera module on the back features ZEISS branding. In another exciting development, Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao revealed that the X Fold 5 will be the first Android smartphone capable of directly connecting to Apple’s iCloud. This functionality allows users to access their iCloud files directly through the phone’s file manager and synchronize with an iPhone in real-time. There are also suggestions that the device will function as an extended display for MacBook users and enable seamless AirPods pairing.

Regarding specifications, Vivo has disclosed that the X Fold 5 will feature 8T LTPO main and cover displays with high-frequency PWM dimming. Leaks indicate it could have IP5X and IPX9+ ratings for dust and water resistance, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a 6,000mAh battery with 90W fast charging capabilities. More details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
