WWDC commenced yesterday, featuring several Apple executives engaging with creators, including iJustine, one of the most prominent Apple content creators on YouTube. She had the opportunity to chat with Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, discussing various topics, notably the delays surrounding Siri.
iJustine inquired about the long-awaited Siri updates. The features were initially showcased at last year’s WWDC, but it was recently confirmed they would be delayed by up to a year.
Federighi explained that while they had the new features operational internally, they weren’t refined enough for a reliable user experience. He emphasized that if Siri cannot consistently execute requests, users are unlikely to rely on it.
This realization prompted the team to reassess their approach, which helps clarify the reasons behind Siri’s delayed launch. Federighi provided thoughtful insights, acknowledging the challenges faced by Apple in rolling out these updates.
Although the Siri features were functional, they required further development to ensure user satisfaction before release. The team understood that unreliable features could ultimately hinder Siri’s effectiveness.
After a change in strategy, they aim to deliver improved capabilities that meet expectations. Looking ahead, Federighi assured that Apple will ship all previously announced Siri updates and hinted at additional features being planned.
Siri is due for significant improvements, considering it was the first personal assistant introduced to users, predating Google Assistant and others. Despite its historical shortcomings, the anticipated updates may enhance Siri’s functionality and usability.
The release date for iOS 26 is scheduled for this fall. However, additional Siri features might not be included by that time, as Apple often reserves some updates for new iPhone launches.
