During Microsoft’s recent Xbox Game Showcase, the company unveiled the next installment in the highly popular Call of Duty series: Black Ops 7. The initial teaser trailer for the game opens with a robot welcoming players to “The Guild,” before guiding them through a mysterious facility. As the trailer unfolds, it becomes evident that the storyline will feature a mix of surreal and intriguing elements. At the start of the trailer, viewers catch a glimpse of the character David Mason, a familiar face to long-time fans.

Halfway through, the infamous antagonist Raul Menendez from Call of Duty: Black Ops II makes a return. Although Menendez’s role in Black Ops 7 remains ambiguous, his reappearance is notable given that players had the option to either kill or imprison him at the end of Black Ops II. The trailer predominantly consists of cinematic footage, hinting at the game’s narrative as David Mason navigates through various alternate realities, encountering ghosts from his past. Toward the end, a brief segment reveals cutscenes featuring zombies, confirming that the beloved Zombies mode will be included in Black Ops 7.

This is not surprising, as the Zombies feature has been a staple in every Black Ops title, including the current one, Black Ops 6. As for the release date, the game is expected to launch later this year, although Activision has not specified an exact date yet. With two more seasons left in Black Ops 6, it suggests that the new installment will adhere to its annual release schedule, likely debuting in Fall. Notably, Microsoft has announced that the campaign mode will be fully playable in co-op, adding an exciting dynamic to the gameplay experience.
