Huawei has officially launched its Pura 80 series, which includes four smartphones: the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, Pura 80 Pro+, and the Pura 80 Ultra. The Ultra model is particularly noteworthy and deserves special attention. One of the most compelling features of the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is its innovative camera setup. This model features a periscope telephoto camera equipped with two lenses attached to a single sensor.
This unique configuration allows for dual optical zoom capabilities, offering users the choice of 3.7x and 9.4x zoom. Huawei has cleverly designed a moving mechanism that transitions between the lenses, making it possible to take stunning shots with impressive optical zoom while maintaining sensor-shift optical image stabilization (OIS). Alongside the telephoto lens, the Pura 80 Ultra also sports a 50-megapixel main camera. This camera is a 1-inch type RYYB sensor equipped with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.6 to f/4.0, and it too features OIS.
Huawei claims that the Ultra can produce images with a 15x higher dynamic range compared to its predecessor, the Pura 70 Ultra. The main camera boasts an extraordinary 16EV dynamic range, expected to deliver exceptional detail in both bright and dark settings. Additionally, the rear setup includes a 40-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 1.5-megapixel multi-spectral color sensor, supplemented by various photographic styles like Nature and Film. The smartphone also features a 6.8-inch quad curved LTPO OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1-120Hz.
It is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass and offers a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It comes with 16GB of RAM and storage options of 512GB and 1TB. The device runs on HarmonyOS 5.1 and packs a 5,700mAh battery with support for 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. The Pura 80 Ultra is also IP68 and IP69 certified.
Available in Black and Gold, its pricing begins at CNY9,999 (approximately $1,391), with pre-orders commencing in China. Global availability details remain unconfirmed.
