Google has begun rolling out a significant update for its smartwatches, coinciding with the launch of its Pixel phones and tablet. The June 2025 update is now available for the Google Pixel Watch models 1, 2, and 3. This latest update is based on Wear OS 5.1 and Android 15, marked as BW1A.250605.004. While it is being rolled out to all users, those with cellular devices in Japan and Singapore will receive this update in the coming weeks.
Upon installation, the Android security update level will advance to June 5, 2025. One notable feature of this update is the enhanced Google Wallet capabilities, allowing users to utilize transit passes via tap-to-pay even when the app is not open. However, users must ensure their Wear OS watch is unlocked for this feature to function. To use it with a default credit or debit card, an opt-in from the Wallet and Wear settings is required.
Additionally, this feature will be automatically available for municipal transit cards, starting with transit systems in Washington D.C., Seattle, and Toronto. The Google Home app will also gain new functionalities, enabling users to set watch-specific device shortcuts in their favorites. To check for the update, users can tap on the ‘Your watch is up to date’ screen under Settings, then System and System updates multiple times. It is important to note that the Pixel Watch will shift to quarterly updates, with the next one expected in September.
For users eager to install the update sooner, OTA update images are available, though caution is advised to ensure proper installation.
