Huawei has officially announced that it will unveil the Pura 80 series of smartphones on June 11 during an event in China. The company shared this news through a teaser on Weibo, drawing attention to the advanced rear cameras that the new high-end devices will feature. The teaser for the Pura 80 series carries the tagline “See beyond with foresight,” which emphasizes the brand’s commitment to improving mobile photography. At the upcoming event, it is anticipated that Huawei will unveil three models: the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, and Pura 80+ or Ultra.
Recent leaks have suggested that a dual periscope camera system could be a highlight of the Pura 80 series. This revelation is nearly confirmed by Huawei’s official teaser, which features elliptical shapes that likely indicate the presence of periscope-style telephoto lenses. However, it is speculated that this dual camera system may only be available on the Pura 80 Pro+ or Ultra model. Moreover, rumors suggest that the top variant of the Pura 80 series could incorporate a custom 1-inch LOFIC CMOS sensor designed by SmartSens.
This sensor is expected to significantly enhance dynamic range and low-light performance. Additionally, the flagship model may feature a 50MP periscope telephoto lens alongside a third 40MP ultrawide-angle lens and a 2MP color temperature sensor. It seems Huawei might also be doing away with the retractable lens design previously seen in the Pura 70 Ultra. Furthermore, the CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, He Gang, inadvertently revealed the design of the Pura 80 series, showcasing a larger triple camera island that occupies much of the rear panel.
The Pura 80 series will likely debut with the stable version of HarmonyOS 5.0 and is rumored to be powered by the Kirin 9020 processor. Specific technical details about the new smartphones remain scarce, but excitement is building for their launch.
