When considering foldable smartphones, Samsung has long been the frontrunner. However, recent findings from Counterpoint Research indicate that Huawei is making significant strides in this sector.

The data reveals an astonishing 54% growth for Huawei in the global foldable market projected for 2024, while Samsung is expected to see a 33% decline during the same period. Despite Huawei’s impressive growth, Samsung remains the dominant player within the global foldable market.

The company holds the majority share, but Huawei’s upward trajectory poses a potential threat. Notably, Huawei has managed to find success in markets like China and Asia, despite facing restrictions in key regions such as the U.S.

This highlights the strong consumer base Huawei has in those regions. Huawei is also pushing the envelope with its foldable innovations.

The company recently introduced the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, a move that has spurred Samsung to explore similar designs. Additionally, Huawei launched the Pura X foldable, a unique device that blends the formats of book-style and clamshell foldables.

Its appealing price point could further entice consumers to consider this new gadget. Looking ahead, Apple’s foray into foldables is also generating buzz.

According to projections, Apple plans to release its foldable smartphone in 2026, featuring a book-style design with an aspect ratio similar to that of the iPad. This compatibility could facilitate a smoother user experience, provided Apple allows iPad apps to function on iOS.

The anticipated foldable iPhone, expected to launch at a price point around $2,000, may face challenges due to its premium cost. However, this is typical of Apple products, as consumers often encounter the so-called “Apple tax.” If Apple can ensure a wide range of optimized applications for its new device, it could help ease the transition for users.
