AMD made a significant announcement at Computex 2025, unveiling its new CPUs in the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series. This latest series includes two standout offerings: the Ryzen Threadripper 9000 and the Threadripper 9000 Pro. The processors demonstrate remarkable power, featuring up to 64 cores for the standard version and up to 96 cores for the Pro variant. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series is specifically designed for professional workstations, particularly targeting high-end desktops (HEDT).

After a long absence of dedicated HEDT processors, the arrival of the Threadripper chips is a much-needed development. The Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series provides options that include 24-core, 32-core, and 64-core configurations. Meanwhile, the Threadripper 9000 Pro range covers a broader spectrum, with configurations starting from 12 cores and scaling all the way to 96 cores. What truly stands out is the introduction of the Zen 5 architecture, which enhances performance with a focus on both core count and advanced features.

The Zen 5 architecture supports AVX-512 instructions and boasts a full 512-bit data path. This advancement is crucial for professionals requiring high-performance computing. Additionally, the Threadripper chips offer PCIe 5.0 support, providing up to 128 PCIe lanes. They also accommodate up to eight channels of DDR5-6400 memory with ECC support.

Notably, the flagship Threadripper 9980X features up to 256GB of L3 cache, while the Pro range maximizes at 384MB on the Threadripper Pro 9950WH. AMD has certainly set a higher standard in the industry. However, the company has yet to disclose pricing information, which is anticipated to be on the higher end, reflecting the advanced capabilities of these processors. The Threadripper Pro will likely be integrated into workstations from leading manufacturers, including Lenovo and HPE, with the first devices expected to launch in July.
