Since the launch of iOS 7, Apple has made minimal changes to the design of its operating system. While there have been some refinements over the years, users can expect a major redesign with the upcoming iOS 19.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg recently reported on this anticipated overhaul, highlighting the key changes we should look forward to. The most significant aspect of the new iOS 19 design is its emphasis on consistency.

Gurman explained that Apple aims to unify the experience across all its products, which have historically had distinct elements while still belonging to a tight-knit ecosystem. He stated, “Things like hamburger menus, menu buttons, the menu bar, and buttons for closing applications will be standardized.” This approach seeks to eliminate the discrepancies that currently exist across the operating system, making it more cohesive for users.

Furthermore, we can expect a visual refresh that includes updated icons and animations, as well as a more glassy aesthetic throughout the user interface. While many users are eager for new AI features in iOS 19, it appears that Apple will not focus on introducing groundbreaking advancements this time around.

Instead, the company is expected to integrate its Apple Intelligence more seamlessly into existing native applications. This prudent choice comes after Apple Intelligence’s lackluster reception compared to competitors like Galaxy AI and Gemini.

Gurman likened the current challenges of Apple Intelligence to the difficulties faced by Siri, which often struggles with basic queries. Gurman acknowledged that the changes in iOS 19 might require some adjustment for users, but he believes they will eventually grow accustomed to the new design.

More information about the upcoming update is expected to be revealed at WWDC in June, promising an exciting glimpse into the future of iOS.
