In August of last year, Google introduced the Google TV Streamer, marking its first streaming device built on Android 14 for TV. Following this launch, the company released a minor 36MB update to the device, which was succeeded by a more substantial 329MB update in January of this year. Recently, Google has rolled out another update for the Google TV Streamer.
According to a report from 9to5Google, this latest update increases the firmware version to UTTK.250305.003, upgrading from UTTK.241210.003. The new firmware update also adjusts the security patch level, advancing it from January 2025 to April 2024. At 187MB, this latest update is significantly smaller than the one released in January.
While it does not introduce any new features, the changelog notes that it includes general bug fixes and performance improvements. The specific bugs addressed in this update were not detailed by Google; however, a user on Reddit shared insights about the issues resolved. According to the user, identified as @latinriky78, the update fixes two notable bugs.
One of the issues involved HDMI-CEC, which caused the device’s volume to drop to zero when rebooted while the TV was either powered off or disconnected from the outlet. The update also resolved a black screen problem that occurred when playing hybrid Dolby Vision/HDR10+ videos. As more users begin to install this update, additional information about its impacts may emerge.
Additionally, Google has clarified inconsistencies regarding codec support in previous updates, noting the TV box’s inability to support Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X audio, DTS-HD, and DTS-HD MA.
