In recent years, numerous tech companies and startups have introduced their own AI-powered chatbots. OpenAI was a pioneer in this movement with the launch of ChatGPT, which subsequently became available as a mobile app.

Google developed Gemini specifically for mobile use, while other platforms like Claude and Perplexity also provided dedicated applications. Now, users can interact with both ChatGPT and Perplexity AI directly through WhatsApp without the need to download separate apps.

WhatsApp has emerged as the leading instant messaging app globally, boasting a user base of around 2 billion active members. Following Meta’s acquisition of WhatsApp, the company has continuously added features to enhance user experience and compete with rivals.

Recently, Meta has transformed WhatsApp into a central space for easy access to third-party AI services. Perplexity’s CEO, Aravind Srinivas, has announced that users can now chat with Perplexity AI via WhatsApp.

To get started, users can save the number +1 (833) 436-3285 to their contacts, and Perplexity AI will appear as a new contact. This integration allows users to engage with the AI chatbot for conversations, answers to questions, and even image generation.

However, it’s important to note that this WhatsApp version may not have all the features found in the dedicated app or on the Perplexity website. Srinivas mentioned that more features will be added soon.

OpenAI has also integrated ChatGPT into WhatsApp. To access this popular chatbot, users can add the number +1 (800) 242-8478 to their contacts.

Both Perplexity AI and ChatGPT present users with alternatives to Meta AI, the company’s proprietary chatbot powered by Llama models. Meta AI is readily accessible through a permanent shortcut in the app, which has frustrated some users who seek an option to remove it from the interface.
