Sony is preparing to unveil its latest flagship phone, the Xperia 1 VII, which is expected to deliver top-tier performance. Recent findings indicate that this model will be equipped with a powerful chipset, validated by its performance on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. Geekbench testing shows that the Xperia 1 VII scored an impressive 2,967 in single-core and 9,017 in multi-core tests, confirming that it will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. This chipset also includes the Adreno 830 GPU, which supports ray tracing, enhancing its gaming and graphics capabilities.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm process and boasts an 8-core architecture, which features dual Oryon cores and six additional cores, resulting in a significant performance boost. In comparison to its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VI, which was released in May of the previous year and powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Xperia 1 VII is set to maintain the flagship standard that Sony’s Xperia lineup is known for. The phone is anticipated to come with 12GB of RAM and run Android 15 out of the box. Additionally, it was recently certified by the US FCC, revealing its dimensions as 162 x 74.5 x 8.5 mm, suggesting it may be somewhat thicker than current flagship models.

Leaked specifications suggest that the Xperia 1 VII will sport a 6.5-inch OLED display with 4K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. A triple-camera system is expected, featuring a 48MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera. Reports also hint at a 12MP front-facing camera. Although an official release date has not been announced, predictions suggest a launch on May 15, with an expected starting price of USD 1,399 and a global release in July 2025.
