In September 2024, Meta successfully acquired the Threads.com domain and began redirecting users from Threads.net to this new address. Recently, the company announced the official transition of its X competitor platform from Threads.net to Threads.com, aiming to streamline user access.
With this change, Meta emphasizes its commitment to enhancing the user experience, and it is complemented by new features for the web platform. The first notable change is the new web address for Threads.
Users can now conveniently access the platform via Threads.com, which should make it easier for everyone to find the site. The previous .net website will now direct users to the .com address, ensuring a seamless transition.
In addition to the address change, several new features have been introduced to enhance the desktop user experience. Notably, when utilizing a single-column view, users will now see their custom feeds prominently displayed at the top of the page, mirroring the order they appear on mobile devices.
Users can also easily access their liked or saved posts through the main menu icon. For added convenience, a new column can be added by clicking the icon on the right side of the page, allowing for faster screen customization.
Moreover, Threads is rolling out a feature that enables users to copy posts as images, making it simple to share content on other social media platforms like Instagram. Additionally, a new “+” button has been added to the bottom right corner of the page, which reveals a pop-up composer that remains visible as users scroll, enabling spontaneous posting.
Lastly, Meta is testing a feature that allows users to import their following list from other apps into Threads, starting with X.com, its main competitor. The company has expressed its dedication to continuously improving the desktop version of Threads and has more updates in the pipeline.
