Amazon is reportedly planning to phase out its Fire OS, which is based on Android, in favor of a new operating system called Vega OS. This transition is expected to begin with the launch of its first streaming device using Vega OS, aimed for late 2025.

The company has been collaborating with app publishers to develop applications specifically for this new platform. Historically, there have been rumors surrounding Vega OS since late 2023, although substantial details remained scarce until 2024.

By February, reports indicated that Amazon was actively hiring engineers to work on the operating system, suggesting serious progress was being made. Now, updated information suggests Amazon is on the verge of releasing its first streaming product that will utilize Vega OS, marking a significant shift away from the Android framework that powered Fire OS.
