A bug in Google Messages has been causing frustration among users by triggering the reaction panel to appear unexpectedly when viewing recently received images. While adding reactions to messages is a helpful feature that allows users to express their feelings quickly with emojis, this glitch has led to some annoyance. When users attempt to add a reaction to an image, they typically press and hold the image to access the reaction panel. However, due to this bug, the panel pops up automatically if the last message in the conversation was an image.
Many users have taken to platforms like Reddit to voice their frustrations regarding this issue. While the automatic reaction panel doesn’t completely ruin the messaging experience, it is certainly bothersome. Some users have reported accidentally reacting to images when opening conversations, which can disrupt their intended interactions. Unfortunately, there is currently no fix or workaround for this bug, and the only solution is to send or receive a different message so that the image is not the most recent one in the chat.
This limitation compounds the irritation faced by users. As of now, Google has not provided any official response regarding the problem, leaving users uncertain if it’s a bug or a test of a new feature. Notably, this issue seems to affect devices running the beta version 20250406_01_RC00 of the Google Messages app. As complaints continue to rise, it’s likely that Google will eventually address the issue, but for the time being, users are left to cope with this unintended inconvenience.
