For several years, users of the Galaxy S Ultra devices have had the S Pen as a unique feature exclusively available to them. Currently, only these phones and the Galaxy Tabs support the stylus accessory, and this is not expected to change in the near future. However, a recent report suggests that Samsung might consider detaching the S Pen from upcoming Galaxy S devices by eliminating the dedicated slot.

According to tipster PandaFlashPro on X/Twitter, Samsung is contemplating a return to separating the S Pen from its Galaxy S Ultra models. While the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to continue including the S Pen, its availability for future models, starting with the Galaxy S27 series, remains uncertain. This shift would echo the scenario of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, where users could choose to purchase the accessory separately without it being built-in.

This consideration may not be new for Samsung. Last year, the company reduced the capabilities of the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra by removing Bluetooth-dependent features. Additionally, S Pen support was completely dropped from the Galaxy Z Fold SE.

A Samsung representative has stated that the S Pen is an essential part of their portfolio, indicating support may continue, but the potential separation means it might not be included with every device. The move by Samsung has both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, removing the slot could free up space for other components, such as a larger battery.

On the other hand, customers may feel disadvantaged if they face higher prices without additional benefits. Historically, the Galaxy S Ultra lineup hasn’t always included S Pen support. The Galaxy S20 Ultra, for instance, did not support the stylus, while the subsequent models required separate purchases for the accessory.

In contrast, starting with the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung integrated the S Pen into its flagship devices, enhancing their appeal.
