Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, may soon introduce a new feature known as “temporary chats,” which will be familiar to users of other popular AI chatbots. Recent reports and leaks suggest that Gemini’s functionality will mirror the temporary chat option available on the ChatGPT platform.

This feature was first discovered in development back in June through an analysis of the Gemini app’s code by Android Authority. Newer reports have even revealed screenshots showcasing how this feature might function.

The concept behind temporary chats is straightforward: conversations won’t be seamlessly stored in the user’s chat history by default. This can prove beneficial when discussing sensitive topics, brainstorming ideas that one does not wish to revisit, or simply desiring a cleaner chat log.

Notably, Google has promised that it won’t use these temporary chats to train Gemini, and all data will vanish from their servers within a maximum of 72 hours. Screenshots indicate that users will have the option to toggle temporary chats on and off, allowing them to retain control over which conversations they wish to save.

The interface appears user-friendly and keeps in line with Gemini’s existing design, emphasizing usability. This initiative by Google seems aimed at addressing user privacy concerns, granting individuals greater control over their data.

By enabling temporary chats, Gemini may attract those who are apprehensive about their interactions with AI.
