Vivo has officially launched the X Fold 5 foldable smartphone in China, marking the successor to the popular Vivo X Fold 3 released in 2024. This new model continues the trend of being one of the slimmest and lightest book-style foldables available. Along with typical improvements, the X Fold 5 features enhanced compatibility with Apple devices, including the iPhone, AirPods, MacBook, Apple Watch, and iCloud. The X Fold 5 weighs 217 grams and measures 9.2mm when folded and 4.3mm when unfolded.

Aesthetically, it closely resembles its predecessor, but boasts impressive durability with IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+ waterproof ratings. Vivo claims the phone can endure high-pressure water and 80-degree hot water, along with being the first folding smartphone to achieve IPX5 dust resistance. It is designed to function in extreme temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius. In terms of display, the X Fold 5 features two AMOLED LTPO screens: an 8.03-inch main display with 2K+ resolution and a 6.53-inch cover screen, both supporting up to a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision.

Internally, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, with options of up to 16GB RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage, running on Android 15-based OriginOS 5. For photography, the device is equipped with a powerful triple rear camera system, including a main 50MP sensor and two 50MP auxiliary cameras for ultra-wide and telephoto shots. It also offers robust connectivity features and a generous 6,000mAh battery that supports fast and wireless charging. Notably, the X Fold 5 becomes the first Android smartphone that can connect to an Apple Watch, allowing users to handle calls, messages, and health data seamlessly.

Priced around $975 for the base model and up to $1,325 for higher specs, the phone will be available in China starting July 2nd, with global availability details yet to be announced.
