Samsung debuted its first smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, in 2024. Although the device has some limitations, it serves as a strong foundation for future advancements. Reports highlight that upcoming versions are expected to feature improvements in battery life, design, and measurement accuracy.

Notably, a recent patent suggests that the next iteration of the Galaxy Ring could incorporate wireless charging capabilities. Currently, the Galaxy Ring relies on a charging case for power, which also supports wireless charging. Users can utilize compatible wireless chargers or Wireless PowerShare-enabled Galaxy devices for this purpose.

However, placing the ring directly on a wireless charger does not work effectively—while you can physically do it, the battery will not charge. The new patent application discovered by 91Mobiles indicates that Samsung is addressing this challenge. The filing reveals plans for a Galaxy Ring that could have integrated wireless charging functionality.

This would allow users to simply place the ring on a wireless charging pad or on a compatible mobile device for battery replenishment. According to the patent, the ring would feature sensors to ensure proper alignment on a wireless charger. If the placement is incorrect, users would receive notifications through their smartphones.

Once charging commences, the phone would display information like the ring’s battery level and current status. While this patent does not guarantee that Samsung will implement this technology in the next Galaxy Ring, it seems like a practical evolution. Previous patents from the company have outlined more complex features, including a ring that can automatically adjust to fit various finger sizes.

Nonetheless, some features, like temperature measurement, appear more realistic. As of now, it remains unclear what the next Galaxy Ring will ultimately offer, but updates are anticipated in the near future.
