Insta360, renowned for its action cameras, has introduced a new wireless microphone called the Mic Air. Weighing in at just 7.9 grams, the Mic Air is the smallest and lightest wireless microphone currently available, comparable in size to an Apple AirTag or a coin. It boasts a solid wireless range of up to 300 meters, allowing users to wear it via a magnetic attachment, clip-on, or pendant style while capturing audio. The Mic Air promises outstanding performance with true-to-life sound quality, achieving 48KHz/24-bit sampling alongside omnidirectional audio pickup.

Enhanced with advanced noise cancellation features and a Windshield accessory, it ensures clear audio even in bustling or windy environments. Despite its compact design, the Mic Air offers impressive battery life, providing up to 10 hours of recording time. It can connect wirelessly to the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 action camera and the Insta360 X5 8K 360-degree camera through Bluetooth, with broader compatibility expected for other models in the future. However, it is important to note that utilizing Bluetooth will slightly decrease battery life to 7.5 hours and reduce the wireless range to 30 to 50 meters.

When paired with the optional wireless receiver and noise-cancellation turned off, users can reach the maximum range of 300 meters in an uninterrupted setting. The Mic Air includes button controls that allow for noise cancelling activation, video recording start/stop, and audio muting, while the USB-C receiver provides basic volume controls. For connectivity with smartphones, particularly for vlogging or video content creation, an optional USB-C wireless receiver is necessary. Users of older iPhones with Lightning ports will also need an adapter.

The Mic Air is currently available for $49.99 on Insta360’s website and Amazon, while a bundle that includes the USB-C receiver retails for $69.99.
