The recent update of the Google Clock app, now at version 7.14, introduces several notable changes to this essential Android application. According to a report from 9to5Google, the update features a subtle visual refresh of the Google Clock widget and user interface, although some features remain exclusive to Pixel devices. One of the most noticeable alterations is in the world clock tab, where weather icons for various time zones have shifted from vibrant colors to a more muted gray palette.

This change contributes to a cleaner look that integrates more seamlessly with the overall interface. However, it may be less visually striking, making it easier for users to overlook the icons during a quick scan. Pixel users will also experience a slight redesign of the weather icons, aligning them with upcoming changes in the At a Glance feature in Android 16 QPR1.

Notably, the Timer Starter widget remains exclusive to Pixel devices, which some may view as a missed opportunity given the widespread use of timers. To determine if you have the latest version, go to Settings, select Apps, find Clock, and scroll to the bottom. If you’re not on version 7.14, you can download the latest version from the Play Store.

Additionally, this update marks progress in Google’s gradual integration of Material 3 design across its applications. The new toggle switches found in the Alarm tab and Settings menu are slightly taller and slimmer, with a clearer off state and a subtler circular handle. While these updates may seem minor, they enhance the uniformity of the user experience.

Despite the introduction of Material 3 several years ago, many Google apps are still evolving to embrace this design language. Similar updates have appeared in the Phone app, Google Password Manager, and even the Pixel Camera app. It may take time for all of Google’s native apps to fully adopt Material 3, but the company appears dedicated to this design initiative.
