Apple is known for its secretive approach to product announcements, often leaving fans and analysts alike guessing about upcoming releases. While rumors and leaks surrounding the iPhone 17 Air have been circulating, no official confirmation from the company has been made. However, recent references to the iPhone 17 Air in the iOS 26 beta provide the closest indication yet that this new model may soon be unveiled.
A report from Macworld highlighted that the second iOS 26 developer beta includes clues suggesting the iPhone 17 Air is a legitimate product in development. One such clue is a new version of Apple’s classic clownfish wallpaper, which comes with a resolution of “420×912@3x.” Notably, there is currently no existing iPhone with this specific resolution, leading to speculation about its connection to the upcoming model. Additionally, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a display size of about 6.6 inches and a resolution of 1260×2740, closely aligning with the newly revealed wallpaper in the iOS beta.
Although Apple has not explicitly mentioned this device in the beta, the wallpaper serves as compelling evidence of a potential new iPhone model on the horizon. The iPhone 17 Air would represent the first significant addition to Apple’s iPhone lineup in several years, which has remained largely unchanged with the base, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max models. There are indications that Apple may replace the Plus model with the new Air version.
Rumored to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to measure 5.5mm in thickness and weigh around 145 grams. Moreover, this new model may play a pivotal role in paving the way for Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, set to launch in 2026. Official announcements regarding the new iPhones are expected in September, leaving enthusiasts waiting a few more months for confirmation.
