Samsung’s RAM issues might elevate Micron as the standout feature of the Galaxy S26.
Samsung is reportedly considering Micron as the source for RAM components in its upcoming Galaxy S26 series smartphones. This indicates that Samsung will maintain its partnership with Micron, which has already supplied some RAM for the Galaxy S25 models currently in production.
While the Galaxy S26 seems distant, history shows that Samsung typically launches its new phone early in the year, suggesting that development is already underway. Recent reports highlight that Samsung is receiving samples of LPDDR5X memory from Micron for the Galaxy S26.
This step is crucial as it aligns with the company’s timeline, pushing forward to secure necessary components for the new model. However, potential challenges lie ahead for Samsung.
The production of the Galaxy S25 series will continue to rely significantly on Micron chips, expected to comprise about 60% of the components, with the remaining 40% sourced from Samsung’s own supply. This indicates that Micron is actively seeking to expand its business with Samsung ahead of the new flagship releases.
The concern stems from Samsung’s reported low yield rates in its memory and storage production. These challenges may lead to increased costs for their memory products, which could, in turn, elevate the prices of future devices.
By opting for Micron, Samsung may benefit from better yield rates, which could help keep the end price more competitive. Additionally, rumors suggest that the Galaxy S26 might feature up to 16GB of RAM in at least one variant, showcasing Samsung’s intention to enhance performance alongside supportive partnerships with reliable component suppliers like Micron.
