A new report has provided insights into the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s zoom camera, and some users may find the news disappointing. It appears that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera equipped with a 1/2.52-inch sensor. This camera will support 5x optical zoom, a pixel size of 0.7um, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and optical image stabilization (OIS).

Notably, this configuration mirrors the periscope telephoto camera found in both the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Many fans were hoping for an upgrade in sensor size, but it seems they will have to settle for the current system. Furthermore, it’s uncertain whether a second telephoto camera will be included.

If it is, it may follow the traditional telephoto design Samsung has utilized in previous models. A secondary periscope telephoto unit could enhance photographic capabilities, but as of now, that remains speculative. Compared to competitors, Samsung’s setup appears less advanced.

Some Chinese smartphones, such as the Vivo X200 Ultra, boast periscope telephoto cameras with larger sensors, specifically a 1/1.4-inch sensor. However, the lack of significant improvement in Samsung’s offering was not entirely unexpected. The anticipation for a substantial upgrade in that component has been minimal.

In addition to the telephoto camera, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to include a 200-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Complete details have yet to emerge, as the device is not slated for release until January 2026, consistent with Samsung’s historical launch patterns. For now, Samsung’s focus will shift to the upcoming Unpacked event on July 9, 2025, where they will unveil several new products, including the Galaxy Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.
