RedMagic has made a comeback by officially announcing the RedMagic Astra, marking the company’s second tablet and its first foray into the smaller tablet market. As mobile gaming continues to gain popularity, the demand for devices that can handle advanced gaming capabilities is ever-increasing. While there were many Android tablets available years ago, the choices have dwindled, especially when it comes to gaming-specific models. Although there are numerous smartphones offering flagship specs like the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform for gaming, the tablet landscape has been less favorable.
RedMagic aims to change that narrative. The RedMagic Astra is reminiscent of smaller mobile gaming devices, like the Legion Tab Gen 3, which we reviewed earlier. Its 9.06-inch display strikes a balance between being larger than a smartphone yet small enough for comfortable, prolonged gaming sessions. The Astra is a device you can easily tuck into an inside jacket pocket for convenience.
Additionally, it boasts an impressive 8,200 mAh battery, up to 24GB of RAM, and a storage capacity that reaches 1TB. RedMagic has announced that the Tablet, which initially launched in China on June 12, will soon be available internationally, including in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Europe, and select countries in the Middle East and Asia Pacific. U.S. consumers can look forward to early bird access starting July 15, with general availability on July 16. Pre-orders for early bird vouchers will be open on July 10.
The pricing starts at $549 for the 12GB/256GB version, scaling up to $699 for the 16GB/512GB variant and $899 for the 24GB/1TB model. The tablet is available in two colors: Eclipse Black and Starfrost Silver, though the premium model is only offered in Eclipse Black. To elevate the gaming experience, RedMagic has also upgraded the Astra’s display from an IPS panel to an OLED panel, ensuring more vibrant colors and deeper blacks that enhance visual quality. The display features a 165Hz refresh rate and a 2.4K resolution, promising smooth and crisp visuals.
Furthermore, the Astra employs RedMagic’s advanced Ice Cooling System to manage its temperature during intensive gaming, maintaining optimal performance even under demanding conditions.
