Exploring the utilization of Google’s TPUs should not be interpreted as a decline in OpenAI’s confidence in NVIDIA’s GPUs. Instead, it represents an expansion and diversification of OpenAI’s supply chain.

The report indicates that OpenAI might not be using Google’s most advanced hardware, which could still be reserved for Google’s internal applications. Diversifying hardware options allows OpenAI to mitigate potential bottlenecks caused by dependency on NVIDIA’s hardware development cycle.

By considering alternatives like TPUs, OpenAI is taking proactive steps to enhance its development capabilities in the AI space.
