The countdown has officially begun for Samsung’s One UI 8 update. The South Korean technology company is currently in the beta phase and has been diligent in rolling out updates to users. The most recent release was the third beta version, which addressed various persistent system issues. While the latest beta primarily focused on fixing bugs, it does not indicate that Samsung isn’t developing new features.
Recent reports suggest that the company is testing an exciting new feature for One UI 8 called Dynamic Effect, which aims to add a lively touch to still photos. Dynamic Effect, as reported by Ice Universe, will be part of the Gallery app. It is akin to the Live Effect feature available on models released after the Galaxy S21, but with noteworthy distinctions. Live Effect transforms static images into short animated clips, while Dynamic Effect enables users to manipulate objects within photos, allowing them to move up, down, or sideways.
Details are still limited regarding this feature, but sources indicate that Dynamic Effect may ultimately be integrated with Live Effect. Combining these functionalities makes practical sense, as having two separate features providing a similar experience might lead to redundancy. A video demonstrating Dynamic Effect in action on the Galaxy S25 Ultra was shared by a source, further implying that models capable of utilizing Live Effect will likely be able to support Dynamic Effect as well. Looking ahead, Samsung plans to approach its release strategy uniquely this time.
Historically, significant OS updates have launched alongside the Galaxy S series. However, this year, the focus will shift to introduce the stable One UI 8 with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, both of which will come preloaded with Android 16-based One UI 8 on July 9. Following this launch event, the public rollout will commence, starting with the Galaxy S25 series before extending to flagship models from previous years.
