If you felt Google Photos needed a refresh, particularly on iOS, you’re in luck. The tech giant has unveiled a redesigned version of the app, which boasts a more modern user interface aimed at enhancing photo viewing experiences. Google announced the updates in a recent blog post, detailing several improvements to the app’s user interface.
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of a new light mode. This feature allows the background of photo views to automatically sync with the system theme of the user’s device, creating a more cohesive look. The updates include several user-friendly enhancements.
For instance, users can now see date, time, and location details prominently displayed at the top of each photo. This adjustment makes it simpler for users to recall when and where their photos were taken. Additionally, the actions menu has been streamlined for better usability and navigation.
Key actions have been consolidated into a three-dot menu, making it easier to access functions. Another important update allows for easier navigation within the app. The three-dot menu now includes options like “About, Google Lens, Create, Cast, Save as, Download, or Delete from device.”
Notably, Google Lens has been relocated to this menu, making room for a more intuitive “Add to” function. New pill-shaped badges have also been introduced, allowing users to categorize photos, play or pause Live or Motion photos, and conveniently save shared images to their library. The app features an additional three-dot menu next to thumbnail selections for photo stacks and bursts, enabling quick actions like changing the top pick or removing photos from the stack.
Currently, these updates are available for iOS users, with plans to roll them out for Android devices soon. However, no specific release date has been provided for the Android version, much to the disappointment of users who will need to be patient a bit longer.
