If you’re in the market for a home HiFi system, Cambridge Audio may have caught your attention while searching for quality amplifiers. Typically, amplifiers are designed primarily to drive speakers.

However, the new Cambridge Audio Evo 150 SE streaming amplifier offers much more versatility. The Evo 150 SE features the ESS SABRE ES9018k2m digital-to-analog converter (DAC), which Cambridge Audio claims provides “emotive sound with exceptional clarity, resolution, and musicality.”

This Class-D streaming amp delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, supported by an advanced Hypex NCOREx module. This power output ensures that it can handle the demands of even more challenging speakers.

What truly sets the Evo 150 SE apart is its streaming capability. Not only can it power your speakers, but it can also seamlessly connect to various music streaming services such as Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Amazon Music, Deezer, and Qobuz.

Additionally, it supports wireless formats like aptX HD Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, and Google Cast. The amplifier is also compatible with Roon Ready and uPnP, which is ideal for accessing music stored on your local network.

If you prefer connecting your existing audio sources, the Evo 150 SE offers various input options, including RCA, balanced XLR, optical, coaxial, and USB. There’s even an HDMI ARC connection for your TV and a built-in moving-magnet phono stage for turntables, along with a subwoofer output for enhanced bass performance.

As for pricing, the Evo 150 SE comes at a significant cost of £1999/€2399/$3299. While this may be a hefty investment, the amplifier’s multifunctionality may justify the price for serious audio enthusiasts.

It is set to be available for purchase starting in July through Cambridge Audio’s website and authorized retailers.
