Many users continue to depend on their Chromecast with Google TV for a seamless home entertainment experience. While these devices still deliver decent performance, an expected update has turned into a frustrating wait. Months after Google initially began rolling out Android 14 for the device, users are left puzzled by its conspicuous absence. The ordeal started in March 2025, when Google began distributing the Android 14 update for its popular streaming dongle.

Shortly thereafter, numerous issues arose, with users facing unexpected app crashes, connectivity problems, and various bugs with external devices. These complications led Google to halt the rollout of the update. As of June 2025, there has been no change; Chromecast with Google TV users still have not received the Android 14 update. Compounding the confusion is Google’s lack of communication, as there has been no official explanation for the delay or any indication of a timeline for resuming the rollout.

This silence has understandably frustrated users, especially since other Android TV devices, like the Onn 4K Pro, have already successfully received the update. While Android 14 does not introduce major changes to Google TV, the ongoing delay raises concerns about software stability and Google’s communication with its users. Adding to the noise is chatter about Android 16 for TVs, making many wonder if Chromecast with Google TV might miss that update altogether. Additionally, Google recently lowered the minimum RAM requirements for Google TV devices.

This change could potentially allow more manufacturers to create affordable hardware but may inadvertently lead to delays in updates for budget-friendly devices. For now, Chromecast with Google TV owners remain hopeful that Google will soon address the issues and deliver a bug-free Android 14 update.
