Synology, a prominent player in the NAS storage market, has recently unveiled two new products: the DiskStation DS925 Plus and the DX525 expansion unit. These devices cater to users with increasing storage needs, offering a solution where traditional external or internal SSDs may fall short.

NAS, or Network Attached Storage, provides additional functionality and flexibility that standard storage solutions might not. For those unfamiliar with NAS systems, these setups are connected to your network, enabling diverse uses based on individual requirements.

For home users, a NAS can be particularly useful for organizing a video library. If you have a large DVD collection or prefer digital backups of hard-to-find films, a NAS can store these sizable movie files efficiently.

With multiple drives housed in one unit, you can achieve significant storage capacity and access your entire media library from anywhere within your network. The DiskStation DS925 Plus features four drive bays, allowing ample room for storage expansion.

Users can attach the DX525 Expansion Unit to increase capacity by an additional five drive bays. This flexibility is ideal for various situations, such as quickly maxing out smaller, cost-effective drives or needing extensive storage for small businesses and content creators.

With both units combined, Synology offers support for up to 180TB of storage, catering to those with substantial data requirements. It’s worth mentioning that the NAS systems do not come with storage drives included, so users will need to purchase drives separately, with Synology’s own Plus Series hard drives recommended for optimal performance.

The new DiskStation DS925 Plus and DX525 Expansion Unit are available for purchase today, with the DS925 Plus priced at around $639 and the DX525 Expansion Unit at $449.
