Samsung introduced the Galaxy A55 mid-range smartphone in March of last year, equipped with Android 14 and One UI 6. At the time of its launch, the company committed to providing at least four major software updates for the device.

Recently, Samsung has successfully rolled out the promised One UI 7 update, and they have now expanded the testing for their latest One UI 8 firmware, which includes the Galaxy A55. A user named Alfatürk discovered a Galaxy A55 (model number SM-A556E) running Android 16 in the Geekbench database, indicating that Samsung is actively optimizing this new operating system for its devices.

The presence of the Galaxy A55 in the testing phase suggests that mid-range smartphones are also being prioritized for updates. The benchmark results for the Galaxy A55 reveal that it scored 1,150 in single-core tests and 3,417 in multi-core tests while running the internal Android 16-based One UI 8 build.

It is essential to note that since this is not the final software version, users may expect performance enhancements when the stable update is released. As one of Samsung’s best-selling mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A55 also received three beta updates prior to the rollout of the stable One UI 7, showcasing the company’s commitment to its non-flagship devices.

In addition to the Galaxy A55, Samsung is also testing the Android 16-based One UI 8 update for the Galaxy A56, with reports of its first test build surfacing on X. The firmware currently appears to be exclusive to the European variant of the Galaxy A56.

Furthermore, the Android 16-based One UI 8 update is expected to reach budget models like the Galaxy M55 and F55 after the mid-range Galaxy A series is fully tested. Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops.
