A Samsung executive has defended the battery life of the Galaxy S25 Edge amidst concerns from users. Black Gaiser, the director of smartphone product management at Samsung Electronics America, addressed these issues during an interview with Tom’s Hardware. He emphasized that rather than fixating on hardware specifications, users should consider the overall experience a phone provides.
Gaiser mentioned that, while the battery capacity of the Galaxy S25 Edge has been reduced to facilitate a slimmer design, the device is still expected to last the entire day for most users. He noted that internal testing showed the phone performs well from “sun up to sun down” without needing a recharge. Although Gaiser claims the S25 Edge lasts longer than its predecessor, the Galaxy S24, this is a modest achievement given the prior model’s less than satisfactory battery life.
Nevertheless, Samsung appears to believe that the battery performance of the S25 Edge is sufficient for the average user. Critically, many experts have pointed out that if Samsung had chosen to implement a silicon-carbon battery, they could have balanced size with increased capacity. This battery technology, which has been adopted by several Chinese smartphone manufacturers, would allow for a larger capacity without expanding the phone’s size.
However, Samsung did not pursue this option, resulting in the S25 Edge housing a comparatively smaller battery than even the Galaxy S25, which has a more compact design. These battery limitations are potentially contributing to the sluggish sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge, according to recent reports. This concern regarding battery life is becoming a significant talking point as consumers weigh their options in a competitive smartphone market.
