Samsung is gearing up for notable upgrades to the display technology in its next clamshell foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7. According to a reliable source, enhancements are expected for both its inner and outer displays, addressing a long-standing request from fans of the series.
The primary focus of these upgrades lies in size and usability. Reports suggest that both the internal foldable screen and the external cover display will expand in size.
A larger inner display promises a more immersive viewing experience. However, the real excitement surrounds the outer display, which is anticipated to undergo significant transformation.
Historically, the cover screen on previous Galaxy Z Flip models has been functional yet small, maintaining a distinctive “folder-like” design characterized by surrounding bezels. Recent exclusive renders indicate that the upcoming model will feature a genuinely full-screen cover display.
A recent report further specifies that the main screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will measure 6.9 inches—up from 6.7 inches in the Z Flip 6—while the cover display will expand to 4 inches, compared to 3.5 inches on its predecessor. Reducing the bezels around the outer display will contribute to a stunning full-screen appearance.
Although Samsung won’t be the first brand to launch a full-screen cover display on a foldable device, this change represents a significant improvement for fans. It will enable users to check notifications, respond to messages, take selfies with the main cameras, and control music or potentially run full apps without unfolding the device.
This increased functionality will make the folded form factor much more appealing and may also help conserve battery life. Samsung’s next Unpacked event is scheduled for July 9, where the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be unveiled, along with the Galaxy Watch 8 series.
