Huawei is making strides in the foldable phone market with the anticipated launch of its second-generation tri-fold device. Following the debut of the Huawei Mate XT last September, which garnered attention for its innovative design and impressive features, the company is preparing to unveil its successor, the Huawei Mate XT 2. Reports suggest that the release is expected in the second half of 2025, ensuring that eager customers won’t have to wait too long. Digital Chat Station, a source known for reliable leaks, has indicated that while the Mate XT 2 will retain the same screen size as its predecessor, significant hardware upgrades are on the way.

Enhancements will include a new chipset and camera improvements, which should excite potential users. Huawei plans to utilize its in-house Kirin chips in this new model, possibly featuring the Kirin 9020, built using an advanced “N-1 node” process. For context, the original Mate XT was powered by the Kirin 9010. In terms of the camera, while specific details remain scarce, there is optimism surrounding the upgrades, given Huawei’s reputation for delivering high-quality camera experiences.

Looking back, the original Huawei Mate XT made headlines as the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, equipped with a versatile 10.2-inch LTPO OLED display. Depending on how it was folded, it offered a 6.4-inch display and a 7.9-inch dual-display mode. Powered by the Kirin 9010 chipset, it featured up to 16 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB.
