Following the introduction of Android’s Material 3 Expressive redesign in May, Google has been updating its in-house applications to embrace this new aesthetic. This refreshed design system introduces vibrant colors, intuitive motion, and adaptive components, enhancing the overall Android experience. After several apps like the Files app were updated, the latest update focuses on the Google Password Manager, which is set to receive a Material 3 Expressive makeover as revealed by an APK teardown from Android Authority. The teardown of Google Play Services (version 25.25.31 beta) identified features of the new design for Google Password Manager.

One notable change is the integration of dynamic colors that match the system’s color scheme. The header text will be replaced by a key logo accompanied by a search bar for easier navigation. Additionally, there will be a new filter positioned below the search field that allows users to distinguish between passwords and passkeys. Importantly, this redesign is not exclusive to Android 16, meaning that devices running older versions of Android will also benefit from these updates.

In addition to the password manager, Google has begun to roll out the Material 3 Expressive redesign for the Phone app. This update features a redesigned bottom bar with Home and Keypad tabs and has recently been made available to a broader user base following initial beta testing. Alongside visual updates, Google is also reorganizing the app’s navigation, aiming to provide a more coherent call history presented as a single chronological list. The company plans to expand this new design to additional apps, including Clock, in the near future.
