Google is continually enhancing the experience for Google Drive users by introducing new AI-powered features. One notable addition is the Gemini side panel, which provides summaries and answers related to video content. Recently, Google has unveiled another feature called “Catch me up,” which leverages Gemini’s capabilities to improve user interaction with shared files. The “Catch me up” functionality allows Google Drive to summarize any changes made by collaborators to shared files since the user last accessed them.

This feature automatically identifies significant alterations, such as edits and comments in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, since the last time the document was opened. It works across multiple files as well as within specific documents, providing a streamlined overview of relevant modifications. Google stated that while the list of changes isn’t exhaustive, it aims to highlight those that are most helpful and significant. This new feature is particularly beneficial for individuals who frequently collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and other shared resources.

Previously, Google Drive users could track changes through the version history page, but “Catch me up” offers a quicker alternative to stay informed about updates and feedback from colleagues or contributors. Currently, the “Catch me up” feature is available exclusively in English and is rolling out to eligible Google Workspace users. This includes those with Business Standard or Plus plans, Enterprise Standard or Plus plans, Gemini Education or Premium add-ons, and Google One AI Premium subscriptions. The rollout began on June 15 and may take up to 15 days for all users to access the new functionality.
