Google is reportedly working on a redesign of the user interface for Gemini on Android devices. Although the company has not officially confirmed this development, an APK teardown of the latest beta version of the Google app indicates that Gemini may soon include a new “Tools” button in its compose box. While this feature hasn’t been publicly launched yet, some users managed to activate it manually. Currently, the compose box in Gemini includes shortcuts for functionalities like Canvas, Video, and Deep Research.
In the latest beta version of the app, sources revealed that Google might replace these individual shortcuts with a single “Tools” button. This change would simplify access by opening a window that grants you access to all three features when tapped. Once a user selects an option, it will appear in the compose box, and can be dismissed easily using the “x” icon. The redesign of the Gemini compose box is anticipated to launch soon, following other recent updates, such as new scheduled actions for Gemini.
In addition to these changes, Google is enhancing its Google Docs app for Android by integrating Gemini features to improve document reading and writing experiences. While the company has previously upgraded nearly all Google Workspace apps like Docs, Sheets, and Slides using Gemini, most enhancements were made to the web versions until now. The upcoming Gemini-enabled Docs app for Android will include functionalities that allow users to summarize text, search within documents, and even create new documents based on specific information. Google began rolling out these features on June 9, with plans to make them available to all users by July 2.
