In January 2024, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy AI suite, a collection of features powered by generative artificial intelligence, alongside the launch of the Galaxy S24 series. Initially, the premium Galaxy AI features have been available for free to users of flagship Galaxy devices.
However, a recent report from Korea indicates that Samsung is preparing to announce a pricing policy for these AI functionalities in the near future. Initially, Samsung had declared that Galaxy AI features would remain free until the end of 2025.
Yet, new insights suggest that the company might be revisiting this approach. While earlier reports hinted at the possibility of these features being offered for free indefinitely, the latest information indicates that a pricing model is indeed on the horizon.
It is expected that the announcement regarding Galaxy AI pricing will occur by the third quarter of 2025. This would align Samsung with other major players in the industry, such as Google and Honor, who already charge users for advanced AI features.
Notably, many of today’s leading AI platforms include paid tiers for features that demand more processing power. For example, OpenAI’s ChatGPT has free and subscription-based options, while Google offers a paid Gemini subscription.
Despite the impending pricing model, it is anticipated that not all Galaxy AI functionalities will be placed behind a paywall. The report suggests that basic features such as Circle to Search and Live Translate could remain free, while advanced capabilities like AI video generation may incur charges.
It’s rumored that Samsung might unveil the pricing strategy during the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 launch event, potentially introducing new advanced Galaxy AI functionalities alongside the pricing model.
