The Google Home app serves as a key smart home platform for millions globally, simplifying the management of smart devices. Although the app has been effective, Google acknowledges its limitations and has been actively improving it.

In line with these efforts, the company has introduced a spring 2025 update featuring a suite of nine innovative enhancements aimed at personalizing your Google Home experience. One noticeable change in this update is the enhanced customization of the Favorites tab.

Users can now add more intricate controls, moving beyond mere on/off switches. This includes options for adjusting indoor temperatures, managing Wi-Fi settings, or using a single toggle to control all lighting in the home.

Additionally, the personalization extends across various devices, allowing the creation of surface-specific “Favorites” for gadgets like smartwatches or tablets. This ensures that the most relevant controls are readily accessible without disrupting the main phone setup.

In addition to streamlined access, the management of home routines has also improved. Enhanced automation features have been introduced, including a presence-sensing capability that allows the home to respond based on who is present.

The update brings smoother camera experiences as well. Users can quickly navigate video timelines with a simple double-tap, while scrolling through history is more fluid.

For Google TV users, it’s now possible to monitor Nest Cams in a picture-in-picture view while enjoying a show. Furthermore, controls are now available via the web, enabling users to adjust lights, temperatures, and unlock doors directly through their browser when away from their phones.

Lastly, the update includes expanded compatibility and insights. A new smoke and carbon monoxide experience for Nest Protect is added, alongside improved support for third-party Matter locks.

The integration of the Nest x Yale lock features enhances accessibility. To complement these additions, a new Home Summary Widget offers a quick overview of devices, recent activities, and important insights directly on the home screen, resulting in a more intuitive and personalized smart home experience.
