Recent leaks and reports have focused on Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17 series, expected to launch this fall. Anticipated models include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 17 “Air.” Speculation indicates that the standard and “Air” models may feature the new A19 chip, while the Pro variants will likely be equipped with the more advanced A19 Pro SoC. However, some sources suggest that the base iPhone 17 may still use the older A18 chip.

A new leak suggests that the A19 Pro chip will deliver performance comparable to the M4 chip in single-core tasks. According to Digital Chat Station, a trusted leak source on Weibo, the A19 Pro is estimated to achieve over 4,000 points in Geekbench’s single-core test, matching the single-core performance of the M4. The same report also claims the chip could exceed 10,000 points in Geekbench 6’s multi-core test.

If these projections hold true, the A19 Pro would represent about a 15-20% performance increase over its predecessor, the A18 Pro, which is utilized in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Apple is reportedly using TSMC’s N3P fabrication node for the A19 Pro, similar to the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Dimensity 9500 SoCs. With these launches occurring around the same time, a competitive race for flagship phone performance is anticipated.

In addition to the A19 Pro’s capabilities, leaks have suggested that all iPhone 17 models will feature higher refresh rates compared to the iPhone 16. The standard iPhone 17 might come with a 90Hz refresh rate, and potentially a 120Hz display, although it may not include Apple’s ProMotion technology, which can adapt refresh rates. The iPhone 17 “Air” will also likely offer a high refresh rate, although ProMotion displays are expected to be reserved for the Pro models.

Overall, this year’s offerings appear to present substantial upgrades across the board.
