The concept of under-display cameras was highly anticipated, but the technology is not yet fully developed. As it stands, photos captured with under-display cameras often fall short of the quality provided by traditional front-facing cameras. This has prompted Apple to maintain a notch or cutout design on its iPhones for a longer period.

Recent mockups, however, offer a glimpse into what the iPhone 18 Pro display might look like. Developer Filip Vabrousek recently shared mockups on X, reflecting rumors surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro. According to a report from The Information, it is suggested that Apple could introduce a hole-punch cutout for the front camera, relocating it to the top left corner of the screen.

Another render by DSCC analyst Ross Young indicates that the iPhone 18 Pro could still use a smaller version of the Dynamic Island design. While it is too early to determine which concept Apple will choose, both sources agree that a reduction in size from previous models is likely. Although Apple has already made Dynamic Island smaller since its introduction, it remains a noticeable feature on the smartphone.

Long-time iPhone users may have grown accustomed to its presence, but it still serves a purpose by providing useful information. For those curious about when Apple may completely abandon the notch, reports indicate that this change will occur gradually. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to transition the Face ID camera system under the display, while the iPhone 19, set to mark Apple’s 20th anniversary, is rumored to implement a full under-display camera design.

With this information, users are left to ponder whether they prefer a hole-punch cutout or a minimized Dynamic Island on their devices.
