Recently, discussions surrounding Samsung’s XR headset launch have gained momentum, especially following a seemingly confirmed release date in 2025. Internally referred to as Project Moohan, this will be Samsung’s first XR device, built on Google’s forthcoming Android XR platform. Google is expected to announce the first Android XR device during its annual I/O event scheduled for May. Although neither company has explicitly mentioned Project Moohan, their comments provide insights into what consumers can anticipate.
Google’s I/O agenda includes a session focused on Android XR, where they will discuss essential information regarding the public launch of Android XR later this year. This indicates a confirmed launch, and the association with Samsung’s Project Moohan strengthens speculation about its release. Samsung has also hinted at this launch during its recent earnings call, noting the exploration of a new product segment—XR. They stated that in the latter half of 2025, the MX Business would introduce new ecosystem products with enhanced AI and health features, while also delving into XR.
This lack of a specific mention of Project Moohan does not obscure the inference that this is the only XR initiative Samsung is currently pursuing in collaboration with Google. The reference to “H2” signifies that Samsung expects to launch its XR device in the second half of the year, which spans from July to December. While the exact month remains uncertain, it seems more plausible that the headset will debut later in the year rather than in July. Samsung may, however, unveil more details about the headset during its upcoming Unpacked event in the summer, providing further insight into Project Moohan ahead of its official release.
