According to a recent report, Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold smartphone might be the first device from the company to feature a silicon-carbon battery. While several Chinese smartphone manufacturers have already adopted this technology, Samsung, Apple, and Google have yet to do so.

The silicon-carbon battery technology boasts higher density, enabling greater battery capacity without increasing size, which many see as a missed opportunity by leading companies like Samsung. Speculation around the silicon-carbon battery comes amidst discussions about Samsung’s new devices.

It was suggested that this battery could have fit well with the Galaxy S25 Edge, but reports indicate that the phone is slated to come with a standard 3,900mAh battery, potentially limiting its performance. The information about the tri-fold device’s battery comes from a source known as PandaFlash X, which has previously provided insights into the device’s design.

This new tri-fold phone is expected to share the hinge mechanism and squarish design with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While it’s exciting to consider the inclusion of a silicon-carbon battery, it’s essential to approach this information cautiously, as it remains unconfirmed.

Samsung plans to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone later this year, potentially alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 during its second Unpacked event, which may take place in July. Well-respected leaker Ice Universe has predicted that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will stand out for its remarkable thinness, measuring just 3.9mm when unfolded.
