Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition, a tablet specifically designed for military personnel. This version is built to endure challenging terrains and safeguard critical data. The Tactical Edition is touted as Samsung’s first mission-ready tablet within its tactical lineup, equipped with specialized software to meet military operational demands.
It features an Exynos 1380 octa-core processor and a 13MP camera, alongside an S Pen for precise annotations. Tyler Gipson, GM and Head of B2B at Samsung Electronics, stated that the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition represents the company’s most advanced tactical solution, aimed at enhancing situational awareness in the field. In developing this tablet, Samsung collaborated with the U.S. Department of Defense, deepening an existing partnership.
The Tactical Edition boasts a more rugged and durable design compared to the regular Galaxy Tab Active5, making it ideal for active-duty military personnel and first responders alike. One of the standout features of the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition is its connectivity capabilities. Given the variety of equipment military personnel use, this tablet is engineered for seamless integration with a wide range of devices.
It can connect to tactical radios, drone systems, laser range finders, and external GPS, supporting conventional cellular connections as well. In terms of security, Samsung has incorporated robust features into the tablet. It employs Samsung Knox to protect user information, with additional security measures including a 5G band-locking mode that restricts connections to certified networks.
The tablet can also operate in a stealth mode, preventing it from emitting RF signatures. Designed to withstand drops from up to 1.5 meters, the tablet has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and meets MIL-STD-810H durability standards. The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition is not available for consumer purchase, but those interested in its design may consider the standard Galaxy Tab Active5.
