Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra flagship smartphone has been generating significant buzz recently. Numerous leaks and reports have surfaced regarding its anticipated camera performance, although there is some inconsistency in the rumors. Some suggest the device will feature two 200MP camera sensors, while other leaks present differing information.

A recent leak indicates that Samsung plans to implement new camera optics, which may allow the Galaxy S26 Ultra to be thinner than its predecessor, the Galaxy S25. Reports suggest that Samsung is looking to introduce new camera modules with the Galaxy S26 series, potentially resulting in a slimmer design for bulky devices like the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a subsidiary that produces various components including camera modules, is working on this project.

The innovation involves applying inkjet printing technology within the camera module, which replaces traditional cover films. These films previously served to prevent flare and ghosting, but the new method aims to create a more compact assembly by placing a thinner anti-ghosting layer between camera lenses. It’s noteworthy that the camera assembly is often one of the thickest components within smartphones.

The anticipated changes may not only result in a thinner Galaxy S26 Ultra but also reduce the camera protrusion found on the back of the device. Additionally, Samsung Electro-Mechanics filed a patent for this innovative camera module as early as 2018. Regarding potential camera upgrades, earlier leaks suggest that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could be equipped with three cameras—a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 200MP optical zoom camera.

However, recent reports indicate that the S26 Ultra may retain four rear cameras similar to the S25 Ultra, albeit with improved sensors. Upgrades could include a 200MP primary camera with variable aperture, alongside other high-resolution lenses. While the reports are intriguing, it’s important to approach them with caution, as the Galaxy S26 series won’t be launched until Q1 2026, allowing ample time for further developments and clarifications regarding its features.
