If you are a user of Galaxy smartphones or tablets operating on One UI 7, you are likely familiar with the Now Bar feature. This pill-shaped user interface element is noticeable on the lock screen, status bar, and Always On Display (AOD). Recently, Samsung seems to be enhancing the Now Bar, a change expected to be included in the Android 16-based One UI 8 update.

Recent leaks suggest that the Now Bar will incorporate several new functionalities in One UI 8. Observers from SamMobile have noted posts showcasing images and videos of the Now Bar’s enhancements. According to these reports, the Now Bar will display additional information on the lock screen, such as the details of ongoing phone calls, including duration and contact names, and the device’s Do Not Disturb (DND) status.

These features are not available in One UI 7. Furthermore, the Now Bar will maintain a consistent design on the cover screen of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip devices, aligning with its main screen interface. As of now, it remains uncertain if Samsung will introduce any further features to the Now Bar in One UI 8 beyond what has been mentioned.

However, increased leaks regarding One UI 8 suggest broader improvements are underway for many existing functions. The Now Bar was initially launched with Android 15-based One UI 7 earlier this year, allowing users to track a stopwatch, access sports scores, and control multimedia without unlocking their devices. While user opinions on the feature vary, there is always the option to disable the Now Bar in One UI 7.

As for the One UI 8 release timeline, there has been little information so far. It is anticipated that Samsung will unveil One UI 8 following its upcoming Unpacked event, where new foldable devices will be introduced. If you are interested in joining the One UI 8 beta program, it is likely to be announced next month.
