Google TV has undergone several updates recently, including the addition of multiple free channels and a new ‘Free TV’ button on its remote. Additionally, Google is working on a simplified setup process for Google TV devices, which will initially be rolled out to select televisions. The current setup process can be lengthy, but the upcoming updates aim to make it more efficient.

In a recent blog post, Google outlined the changes in this setup experience. When you first power on your Google TV, your Android phone will receive an automatic notification that your device is ready to be configured, allowing for a smoother login. For iOS users, a QR code will facilitate the setup process for their Google TV devices.

In addition to streamlining the initial setup, Google is also revamping how applications are installed during this process. While specifics are limited, it is anticipated that users may experience shorter wait times for app installations, allowing for an uninterrupted browsing experience. Google has indicated that users can be less concerned about storage issues in the future, suggesting that installation files will be more lightweight.

Moreover, Google TV will enhance the ability to connect to smart home devices more rapidly. Users will be able to utilize Google Home speakers to control various functions, such as pausing the TV or searching for specific movies and shows. The new setup process will debut on select Hisense TVs, specifically the 2025 U7 and U8 series.

In the future, Google plans to expand this feature to other Google TV devices, including Walmart-exclusive Onn Streaming devices. Additionally, the Chromecast with Google TV is set to make a comeback with the Thomson Cast 150.
